On Rue de Fer, go into the Hôtel de Ville – Jardin du Bourgmestre (the Mayor’s garden), a quiet square in the city centre. A fresco showing some Walloon characters is painted on its facade.
On Rue Emile Cuvelier have a look at Namur’s theatre and turn right into Rue de Bavière to join Place d’Armes, where you turn right to admire the belfry.
This 20m high tower, built in 1388, was originally part of the fortifications. It was only in 1746, after Namur was besieged and the church destroyed, that it was chosen as the official belfry. It had already been fitted with a clock in the 16th century, which signalled the opening and closure of the external city gates. UNESCO has now recognised the belfry as part of World Heritage.
Continue on Rue de la Monnaie and turn right onto Rue de l’Ange, Namur’s main street, take the fourth street on your left onto Rue Haute Marcelle to enjoy a delicious cupcake at Les Cup’inn.
Cycle along the small streets of the old city dating back to the 18th century, Rue Saint Loup, Rue du Président, Rue des Brasseurs and cross the river Sambre onto Rue Notre-Dame, and Avenue de la Plante.
In front of the Hotel Royal Snail, cross the road and follow the bank of the River Meuse until you see the sign “Musée de la Fraise” where you turn right.
Visit the strawberry museum und the garden. The strawberry in all its forms: history, culture, trade and delicacies.
Once back on your bike, follow the bank of the River Meuse to return to Namur city centre.
In front of the Hotel Royal Snail, cross the road and join Avenue de la Plante, Rue Notre-Dame, cross the River Sambre onto Rue du Pont. At the end of this street turn left onto Rue de Marchovelette, continue along Rue des Echasseurs, and then turn right onto Rue de la Halle. Have a look around Place Marché aux Légumes, the oldest square in Namur, known as Place du Vieux by locals.
Cycle along Rue Saint Jean, then onto Rue Rupplémont.
In front of the Museum Félicien Rops, a 19th century artist, turn right, then at the end of Rue Fumal turn right again. Turn left after Church Saint Loup, then head straight to the last stop, Empreinte Belge, to enjoy a local drink in this unique boutique of Belgian creators.
