#tourensemble, a mass start by bike to get Brussels cycling
18 June 2019
It is no secret that bicycles are currently all the rage. This year’s start (‘Grand Départ’) of the Tour de France 2019, for instance, will be held in the Belgian and European capital on the 4th and 5th of July.
To celebrate this extraordinary event (the first time the Tour started in Brussels was in 1958), #tourensemble puts all cyclists from Brussels in the spotlight by creating the 23rd team of the Tour de France - a European first!
But who are these aspiring racers?
Here are 3 portraits of these cyclists from Brussels:
Then join the 23rd team by donning the beautiful yellow jersey and taking part in several cycling events that will have you ride through the heart of Brussels. On the 28th of June, a huge bike ride and bicycle parade will be held to gather the team and prepare ourselves to give a warm welcome to the Grand Départ of the Tour de France. More than 800,000 people are expected to swarm to the capital!
By registering you also lend your support to an adjoining project that supports mothers who want to travel through Brussels by bike. For each submission, €1 will be paid to help mothers (who have already had traffic training by the Pro Velo teams) increase their knowledge of the road.
New cycling infrastructures are flourishing in Wallonia and help to improve the quality of the routes along the EuroVelo 3. On the 27th of April 2019, the sun was out for the inauguration of three new sections of Line 38 on the RAVeL network, a network of environmentally friendly routes in Wallonia. The aim is to attract more and more cyclists, both local and travellers.
