Starting in Wavre, the capital of Walloon Brabant, this stage of your journey takes you along the small rural roads of the Hesbayan plateau. You will then find yourself in the cereal granary of our beautiful region, whose opulence alternates wheat and beet crops. You will discover a vast open countryside, dotted with peaceful villages surrounded by open crop fields.

Be sure to stop at the geographical centre of Belgium, which is just a few steps off your route, at the Place du Tram in the village of Nil-Saint-Vincent (Walhain town).

After crossing through the big fields, you will reach RAVeL line 142 in Daussoulx, which gently leads you down to Namur, the capital of Wallonia. The city of Namur, gateway to the Ardennes, offers its visitors many feats. From the Citadel, overlooking the confluence between the Sambre and the Meuse, the masterpiece of Vauban, a great military architect of Louis XIV, to the historic heart of Namur, the gourmet art of living well is omnipresent here.

Between Wavre and Daussoulx, the trail follows country roads which are usually nice and quiet. The part between Wavre and the car park of Thorembais/Grand-Leez is not yet signposted. The EV5 route between the car parks at Thorembais/Grand-Leez and Daussoulx is clearly signposted. For a detailed description, click here.

Between Daussoulx and Namur, follow the RAVeL line 142. This route has clear signposts, including an identification plate of the EV5. Just before the end of line 142 in Namur, after passing under a road bridge, leave the RAVeL and take a short green track on your right, between the fences along the railway. Take the underpass under the railway on your left. At the exit of the small tunnel, follow the short ramp in front of you and the small road leading to the edge of the Sambre RAVeL. After 1.4 km, turn left towards Place M. Servais and the centre of Namur.

Belfry of Namur
Belfry of Namur

In the 14th century, the Belfry of Namur was one the collegiate church's
towers. A fire destroyed it in 1745, and the Tour Saint-Jacques,
originally built as part of the city wall in 1388, was chosen as the new belfry. It is the
oldest of the three towers of the medieval fortifications.
20 metres high, the Tour Saint-Jacques is listed by UNESCO as a
stunning example of the 14th century military architecture.
