On the RAVeL Meuse

Not far from the ancient fortified city of Huy, by crossing the RAVeL on the right bank of the Meuse, stands Andenne, a city of bears, where stone, water and wood remind us how much the wealth of this region is dependent on these natural elements. The remarkably restored site of Moulins de Beez signals the entry into Namur, capital of Wallonia.

The city of Namur, gateway to Ardennes, offers its visitors difference facets. From the Citadel, overlooking the confluence between the Sambre and the Meuse, masterpiece of Vauban, great military architect of Louis XIV, at its historic heart, the art of living well here is ubiquitous.

From Baudouin Bridge, you leave Huy by taking the RAVeL on the right bank of the Meuse towards Ben-Ahin. The RAVeL will take you safely to Namur.

To reach the centre of Namur, leave the RAVeL Meuse by taking the Ardennes Bridge to cross the river. At the roundabout at the end of the bridge, turn left onto Boulevard Isabelle Brunell. At the next roundabout, you almost come back on yourself, and at the roundabout exit, you take the cycle path on your right. Then you immediately go down the ramp on your right, which brings you onto the RAVeL on the left bank of the Sambre (at its confluence with the Meuse). At the bottom of the ramp, you take a right. You go under two bridges. The next narrow path on your right allows you to reach the centre of Namur.

If you decide to continue towards Charleroi, just continue on the RAVeL on the left bank of the Sambre.

Surfacing: mostly smooth. Alternating between asphalt and concrete.

Incline: no slope.

Signposting: Follow signposts for "La Meuse à vélo" to the Ardennes Bridge in Namur. Then follow the signs for the "EV3" towards the centre of Namur and Charleroi.

Safety, precautions: Watch out for car traffic leaving Huy and entering Namur.

  • Stage shared fully with the international route The Meuse by Bike (to Ardennes Bridge in Namur where this route continues straight on the right bank of the Meuse) and with the W6 regional route (Along the riverside).

Belfry of Namur

In the 14th century, the Belfry of Namur was one the collegiate church's
towers. A fire destroyed it in 1745, and the Tour Saint-Jacques,
originally built as part of the city wall in 1388, was chosen as the new belfry. It is the
oldest of the three towers of the medieval fortifications.
20 metres high, the Tour Saint-Jacques is listed by UNESCO as a
stunning example of the 14th century military architecture.
