Section 10

Bastogne to Martelange

This stage takes you past many villages of the Pays de Bastogne and the idyllic valleys of the Strange and the Sûre rivers, mostly situated in the Natura 2000 zone. You will take two sections of the old railway lines 163 and 618, built in pre-RAVeL times, which linked Bastogne to Libramont, and Bastogne to Martelange, at the gates of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.

In the commune of Fauvillers, didactic panels «Memory of the Tram» will inform you all the local and historical information there is to know.

Your getaway, which is windy at first, ends in the calm of an Ardennes valley. After Martelange, the EuroVelo 5 continues in the direction of Redange and Luxembourg-city on the network of grand-ducal cycle paths.

If you start from Bastogne-Sud station, the route follows the old, Pre-RAVeL line 163 towards Sibret for 1.8km. At the official starting point in the Isle-le-Pré district, exit the pre-RAVeL and take a series of small country roads leading to the villages of Assenois, Salvacourt and Hompré. In the centre of this village, turn left towards the magnificent site of the lakes of the Strange which will encourage you to take a break and relax for a little while. The route then joins the pre-RAVeL of the former vicinal line 618, which passes through Hollange, Strainchamps, Bodange, Wisembach and Radelange, before arriving at the border town of Martelange.
